An aside: this post was inspired by multiple conversations I have seen on social media today. It features content that is heated and inspired by events that this writer has both seen and experienced.
That being said, if you see a friend who is struggling or in need, reach out. Talk to them and help them in any way you can.
As a young female, some of my writings blame males for events I have encountered but the fact of the matter is that men are not entirely to blame. While reported assaults suggest that more females are assaulted than males – there is also a population of males who are affected. As much as we want to genderize this issue – It is also important to recognize that we as people, as a society, and as human beings need to make a move to change the status quo and take claims of assault seriously.
The current administration in the United States is not doing a good job when it comes to protecting our young women – there should be a shrinking number of girls who say #metoo but instead, it continues to grow. If you or someone else is in need call the National Assult Help Line at 1-800-656-4673 or go to Womenshealth.gov
and know that you are not alone.
Dear Teenagers, ‘Adults’ and Americans
In the wake of recent political agendas, I feel it necessary to share a post on the effects of sexual assault and harassment. In this article, I will touch on three crucial points –
- no one has the right to your body
- this “boys will be boys” shit is bullshit
- our system needs to grow up and do better because CONCENT is the only thing that should get anyone hard or horny
no one has the right to your body
Friends, family, readers – it goes without saying but there is no statute of limitations when it comes to assault (sexual or otherwise). I don’t care if it happened 50 years ago or 5 minutes ago – IT HAPPENED – and it has and will continue to affect the person for the rest of their lives.
I don’t care if you are the least wealthy or most holy man in the world, I don’t care if you are the most powerful female or the god of thunder himself – you have no right to take advantage of someone and use whatever means to sweep it under the rug.
When Tom Riddle became Voldemort – separating his soul a total of seven times he placed a part of himself beyond his body. Sexual assault leaves a similar imprint on the person affected. It could be a kiss, a touch, or worse but as we have seen in the #metoo movement, these acts are in no way forgotten.
Male’s and Females today are all susceptible to sexual assault, isn’t a one-sided struggle – so why do we treat it like it is? No one has the right to your body but YOU so don’t allow others to make excuses or use stupid phrases. Stand up, punch hard, and if you find the strength to report if you can.
“boys will be boys” is bullshit
This age-old excuse to allow violence and hyper-masculinity is something that is really holding us back as a country. We are so quick to excuse people who have money and people who have power and honestly I lose my words talking about it because we all know better.
Honestly, I’ll keep it simple with this – that girl or guy you took advantage of is someone’s kid – and one day that could be your kid. This world is already a sick and hateful place without someone getting off on a power rush of controlling someone’s personal space and self-worth.
The time for excuses is over – the facts are in and honestly, anyone willing to sexually assault another person is not in the “x will be x category” they’re in an entire league of their own.
Our system needs to grow up and do better because CONCENT is the only thing that should get anyone hard or horny
Sex is intimate – Intimacy is intimate, it isn’t forced and it isn’t violent. To anyone who thinks that allegations of assault should be thrown out because the scars or bruises can no longer be seen, I dare you to look inside yourself and imagine what it feels like to feel violated. To feel like you have lost control of the one thing on this planet that belongs to you.
At the end of the day – a person’s greatest turn on should be concent -NOT THE LACK THEREOF.
I think if we started supporting the young men and women who find the strength to tell their stories, to be vulnerable in a way they never wanted to be – we should at least listen to what they have to say.
No one is immune to violence. No one is immune to assaults of any origin – but they do not have to happen and we do not have to allow this trend to continue. Stand up for those around you, protect those in need, and support friends or colleagues that want to come forward – because that decision may be the hardest one they have ever made.
